In a higher-education environment especially, advancement or donor relations can be critical for the growth of a university, college or department. There is a balance between instilling enough nostalgia to generate interest in giving and showing to a client’s audience that they are not stuck in the past.

It is important to portray mondern institutions as forward-thinking and poised to leverage donations into institutional growth that makes an institution a leader among peers.

I am interested in stories that show societal impact and there is a lot of cross-over with narrative work here when searching for stories that are authentic and courageous in approach.

In donor relations, vividly demonstraing the impact that a contribution can have, not only leads to significant impressions but often conversions.

Whether it is a well known alumnus returning to his alma mater, a discussion of history vs. the modern evolution of an institution, or a jubilant celebration of a university’s 125 anniversary: story matters.
